A series of airstrikes in Rafah early Tuesday resulted in a tragic loss of life and injuries among Palestinians, as reported by the Palestinian Civil Defense. The airstrikes, carried out by Israeli warplanes, targeted several homes in various locations in the Rafah governorate in the southern Gaza Strip.
The Palestinian Civil Defense teams worked diligently to rescue individuals trapped under the rubble, recovering a number of deceased individuals and transporting several injured persons to safety. Distressing images shared by the Civil Defense showed at least two bodies in body bags, highlighting the severity of the situation.
According to the Palestinian official news agency WAFA, a total of eight Palestinians lost their lives in two separate attacks on Rafah, although specific details regarding the timing of the incidents remain unclear. The Kuwait hospital in Rafah reported receiving 11 deceased individuals, as confirmed in a Facebook post during the early hours of Tuesday.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been approached for comment regarding the airstrikes in Rafah on Tuesday morning. The airstrikes in southern Gaza come in the wake of a statement from the Israeli Prime Minister's Office indicating that the military operation in Rafah will persist to apply pressure on Hamas.
The IDF stated that targeted strikes against Hamas terror targets in eastern Rafah are currently underway. The escalation of airstrikes follows a deadly night from Sunday to Monday, during which at least 26 individuals lost their lives in strikes on Rafah, as reported by the Civil Defense.
