Authorities in Madison, Wisconsin, responded to a shooting incident at Abundant Life Christian School on Monday morning, resulting in multiple injuries. The Madison Police Department received the call at 10:57 a.m. and advised the public to steer clear of the school premises as they dealt with the situation.
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes confirmed to CNN that there were several casualties, although an exact count was not immediately available. Numerous individuals, including students and a staff member with severe injuries, were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The police department issued a statement indicating that the incident was under active investigation, with updates to follow as more information became known. Law enforcement successfully apprehended the suspect, but thorough searches of the school building and surrounding vehicles were still ongoing.
As a precautionary measure, authorities implemented road closures in the vicinity and urged residents to avoid the area until further notice. Abundant Life Christian School, a K-12 institution catering to around 390 students, is situated on a spacious 28-acre campus in Madison.
The school prides itself on offering smaller class sizes to accommodate students from approximately 200 families in the Dane County region. Following the incident, the school announced plans to close for the upcoming Christmas vacation after the current week.
