Multiple firefighter crews battling fire on Swansea's Kilvey Hill as 'acres and acres' burn

Fire crews have been tackling a large grass fire on Swansea 's Kilvey Hill.

Four crews from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to the fire just after 4pm on Tuesday.

Smoke from the fire can be seen throughout the city, from the hill, which has suffered multiple fires in recent years.

The fire service said that it had received around 100 calls from members of the public who had reported seeing the smoke coming from the Bonymaen side of the hill.

The crews sent to the scene are from Morriston, Swansea central, Pontarddulais and Reynoldston.

Residents have reported being able to see smoke from the fire from their homes in Morriston, Sketty, Tycoch and the city centre.

South Wales Police called the incident "a sad day" for Kilvey Hill.

The force shared a tweet on Tuesday night which read: "This morning I was thinking how lucky I am to patrol Kilvey Hill.

"This afternoon I watched acres and acres of the hill burn before my eyes.

It is the latest in a number of grass fires to occur across Wales in recent weeks, including one on Kilvey Hill just last month which saw firefighters battling for more than four hours to put it out.
