Multiple arrests made at Glasgow pro-Palestine march, police confirm

Multiple arrests have been made made at Glasgow's pro-Palestine march, Police Scotland have confirmed.

The demonstration, which was planned deliberately by marchers to avoid the nearby George Square to allow veterans and the public to commemorate Armistice Day, came against a background of political tension.

But thousands still packed Buchanan Street, listening to speakers including SNP depute leader Keith Brown and eight-year-old Jeewan Wadi, who was born in Gaza in 2014.

They marched through the streets, calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict that has claimed thousands of lives.

Police Scotland said five men and two women had been arrested in Glasgow in relation to protests

A spokesperson said: “There were a number of demonstrations throughout Scotland today in relation to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

“In total there were seven arrests, five men and two women, made in separate incidents linked to the demonstrations, all in Glasgow city centre.”
