Multi-vehicle crash on M6 causes almost an HOUR of delays on way to Lake District

A three vehicle crash on the M6 this morning (June 3) has caused severe delays after closures to all three lanes. The crash on the northbound carriageway between junctions 34 and 35 - between Lancaster and Carnforth - was first reported just before 8.30am, according to the AA traffic map.

Since then, traffic has been delayed with emergency services closing all three lanes of the motorway, reports LancsLive. Highways England has advised motorists heading to the Lake District to allow extra time for their journey, due to a 30-minute delay on the approach to the M6 as traffic officers responded to the incident.

One lane was reopened to aid the flow of traffic, however two of the three lanes had to remain closed to help with the recovery of the vehicles and clean up. Highways England has confirmed that all lanes have since reopened on the M6 northbound between junction 34 and 35.

But there is still a 50 minute delay and seven miles of congestion back to junction 33 due to the crash. Lake District visitors have been advised to plan ahead.

A tweet from Highways England posted just before noon reads: "All lanes are now open on the M6 northbound between J34 and J35 following recovery and clear up of debris from an earlier collision. There are approx. 50 mins of residual delays on approach and 7 miles of congestion back to J33. Please allow extra time for your journey."

Lancs Live has approached the Lancashire Constabulary and North West Ambulance Service for further information on the crash.
