Multi-agency response scrambled to Scots coastal path amid missing person probe

A multi-agency response has been scrambled to the coast after reports of a missing person.

Cops received a report of a possible concern for a person on a pathway in the Gregness area of Cove, near Aberdeen.

Other emergency services including the Coastguard and RNLI were also called upon to assist the search, which started at around 2.10pm on Thursday, August 25.

Two Coastguard helicopters were seen flying repeatedly along the coastline at Cove Bay as part of the search bid. Various tracking tools showed that the search continued into the night, with the choppers constantly circling the coastal area.

The RNLI confirmed they were called to reports of a person in the water in the early hours of Friday morning. However, the crew from Stonehaven were later stood down.

Police Scotland have confirmed that enquiries, while still at a very early stage, have continued into the following morning.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Around 2.10 pm on Thursday, 25 August, 2022, police received a report of a possible concern for a person on a coastal path in the Gregness area of Cove, Aberdeenshire. Enquiries, which are at a very early stage, are continuing."
