Muller insists Bayern Munich 'could play better' ahead of Celtic return leg

Bayern Munich icon Thomas Muller insisted they did what they had to do in their Bundesliga title showdown ahead of their Celtic crunch, despite not managing a single shot on target for the first time in over 1,100 games.

Celtic travel to Bavaria knowing they have to overturn a 2-1 first leg deficit in the daunting surroundings of the Allianz Arena.

But shot-shy Bayern failed to get a shot on target in their goalless draw at the weekend at champions Bayer Leverkusen as they escaped with a precious point.

It was reportedly the first time Bayern had failed to get a shot on target for over 1,100 matches since 1992.

But veteran striker Muller stressed there's no panic ahead of the visit from Celtic.

He said: "Bayer Leverkusen played a good game. We took home a good result and will continue on our path.

"Of course, it's obvious we could play better in general.

"But sometimes you just have to hold steady in games like these when the attacking momentum is not on your side.

"And we did that well.

"You can call our performance whatever you want. But we are eight points clear in February.

"And on Tuesday we have the chance to advance at home in the Champions League against Celtic.

"So we aren't worried about anything!

"You have to praise Bayer Leverkusen because they really pressed us for the first time and it worked."

But his team mate, Jamal Musiala admitted they were second best.

He said: "We didn’t play our usual game.

"We didn’t put pressure on them and didn’t have much of the ball."
