Muireann O'Connell recalls 'shocking' online abuse after death of her father

Ireland AM star Muireann O'Connell has revealed that she was the target of trolls following the death of her beloved dad Brendan.

Speaking on her podcast, the Virgin Media presenter recalled the online hate she received while she was with her mum, for the way she acted after her father passed away, Dublin Live reports.

She said: "It was the middle of Covid, with miserable weather, all that stuff and I remember like three messages vividly in my head about how I was a disgrace and I didn't know how to grieve properly and that my father would be ashamed of me.

"Because we were trying to have a bit of a laugh and trying to find something that was funny in life. Like I was sitting in his chair and we'd be watching The Chase or something going 'This is what he'd do right now' or whatever."

The And Another Thing! podcast host said she was in "shock" at how people made judgements of how she was after her father's passing in 2021.

She said: "I swear to god, the judgement of people when you're trying to find a bit of fun around when someone's died. You got to find the fun."

She stressed that you never know what is going on inside people's homes, adding that if trolls are laughing at her pain then they are probably crying themselves to sleep at night.

She was live on air with co-stars Alan Hughes and Katja Mia this week, with viewers praising her stylish black and white dress.

It boasted a large collar with beads all up the front and around the waist, with white arms while the bodice was black.
