Mugshot of wanted man sparks hundreds of comments about his choice of top

A police appeal for a wanted man sparked hundreds of comments about his choice of top.

The appeal included a mugshot of the man, and was posted on Facebook by Greater Manchester Police.

But his attire attracted a huge amount of interest when it was published on the social media site.

People were more interested in what he was wearing rather than what he was actually wanted for.

The original post read by the police read: "Other bakery chains are available..."

But after his photograph was published, he attracted much more attention than a conventional social media post.

The wanted picture of Shaun Aver attracted lots of social media comments for the wrong reasons (Greater Manchester Police)

Hilarious responses were made in reference to his choice of clothing, and there were also scores of wisecracks about Greggs; the brand he was inadvertently advertising.

Gurdeep Dhammu wrote: "I wouldn’t be seen dead wearing THAT!"

Tram Adol commented: " Gurdeep Dhamu that's why he hasn't been seen."

James Dolan replied: "I'm pretty sure wearing that shirt was his actual crime."

And fellow poster Jeff Clark responded: "Should be the Fashion Police looking for him."

A few posters suggested he would be wearing an "extra large" T-shirt, while others made reference to the bakery's more well-known pastries.

The thread attracted a huge amount of hilarity and laughing emojis.

Chris Hughes added his comments, saying: "I remember him from years ago. He used to love Rock n Roll.

"Looks like he prefers Sausage Roll these days."

Mark Harwood quipped about his mugshot: "Police have said 'do not approach he will make mince meat out of you' ”

Jayde Elsie Sapphire added: "I couldn’t imagine being arrested in a Greggs top how much shame must he be feeling."

Aver repeatedly breaching his sex offender notification requirements after being convicted of sexual activity with a boy.

He has links to Preston, Blackpool, Blackburn and Fleetwood and is wanted on a recall to prison.

Aver has no fixed address and is expected to register with police every seven days as part of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Greater Manchester Police has appealed for the public's help to trace him.

A spokesman said: "Shaun Aver is wanted on recall to prison. He is known to have links to the city centre, north Manchester, Preston and Cumbria areas."

Aver had previously been classed by police as a 'risk to women and children' when he went on the run earlier in the year.

He is described as being 5ft 6in tall, with a medium build, and has short, brown hair.

The police appeal has prompted a series of hilarious remarks from social media users who were more interested in what he was wearing.

Hilary Wedge wrote: "Saw the Greggs clothing line in Primark and wondered what kind of person would wear them. Thanks for the answer."

Hazel Lou Hall responded to the appeal saying: "Something tells me, you’ll find him in Greggs."

Anyone who has any information about where he is is being urged to get in touch.

Police can be contacted on 101 quoting log 3656 of 19/12/22 or by calling Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
