'Much-loved' grandmother and community role model killed in Merthyr crash

Tributes have been paid to a 72-year-old woman who died following a crash on Wednesday, January 19.

Officers were alerted to a single-vehicle crash involving a blue Citroen Flare car on Brecon Road, at the junction of Gurnos Road in Merthyr Tydfil, on Wednesday, January 19, around 10.53am.

The woman has now been formally named by South Wales Police as Janis Monger, 72, from Cefn Coed, Merthyr Tydfil.

Her family have released the following statement paying tribute to her: "In the memory of Janis Monger; a beloving wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, friend and much-loved community person to the whole of Cefn Coed.

"We, as a family, are heartbroken to lose such a role model and leader of the family. We thank everyone for their lovely words and condolences at this very sad time.

"Janis touched so many peoples’ hearts over the years and will be deeply missed by many."

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone with information, or anyone with dash-cam footage that may assist the investigation to get in touch quoting reference 2200020282.
