Cottage Bakery has been forced to close one of two of its sites after battling a difficult economic climate for the past three years. The much loved bakery made the difficult decision to shut its Fishponds branch on Downend Road for good on January 29 with "heartfelt sadness".
The independent bakery is famous for its bread, cake and pastries as well as its bespoke celebration cakes. Cottage Bakery will continue to run its site on Rounceval Street in Chipping Sodbury, serving its bread and bakes seven days a week.
Making the announcement on Facebook, Cottage Bakery said: "It is with heartfelt sadness that we have to announce the closure of our Downend/Fishponds shop. We have been through some of the most turbulent times for small business in recent years with Covid-19 and now spiralling costs with supplies and utilities.

"We have unfortunately been left with no other choice than to close the shop due to low customer numbers and running costs exceeding customer sales. We are very saddened to have to take these steps, however we are unable to continue to operate the shop at a loss."
It thanked the community for their loyalty and support over the years. The bakery has been a longstanding fixture on the high street for decades and was taken into new hands in 2016 with no change to the offering, having always been a firm favourite in Fishponds.
Customers have praised the bakery's freshly made loaves, rolls and buns as well as the staff's friendly service over the years.
