MTV VMAs 2022: Taylor Swift and Harry Styles scoop awards - see full list of winners

Taylor Swift, Harry Styles and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers were among the winners at the 2022 MTV VMAs. 

The star-studded audience was treated to an array of performances and music stars throughout the night at the Prudential Center in New Jersey.

Taylor, 32, won the top honour for a 10-minute version of her 2012 breakup song All Too Well and sent fans wild as she made a surprise announcement of a new album coming in October.

The video for All Too Well, which features Stranger Things star Sadie Sink, went viral earlier this year after fans speculated the song was based on Taylor's break-up with actor Jake Gyllenhaal.

Although the former One Direction star Harry, 28, was nearby, he accepted his award for album of the year virtually after the ceremony clashed with his performance at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Johnny Depp made a surprise appearance as MTV's moon man, joking that he needed work, while Black Eyed Peas star Fergie also made a return to the stage alongside Jack Harlow.

And Snoop Dogg and Eminem also put on an extravagant performance as they joked about smoking a huge joint.

Bad Bunny was named artist of the year and was handed his Moon Person statue at New York's Yankee Stadium, where he was playing a concert in front of a sold-out crowd.

The show opened with Jack Harlow singing First Class, dressed as a flight attendant on a plane, before entering the arena to join former Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie to perform Glamorous.

Lizzo, dressed in a Barbie-pink outfit and combat boots, followed with 2 Be Loved (Am I Ready) before winning an award for About Damn Time.

Nicki Minaj was celebrated with the Video Vanguard award for her career of hits. The singer performed a medley of her hits before paying tribute to artists who inspired her.

She said: "I wish that Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson were here. I wish that people understood what they meant, what they were going through (and) took mental health seriously."

Other performers included K-pop band Blackpink and global icon winners the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The band's bassist Flea dedicated the band's award to the late drummer of the Foo Fighters, Taylor Hawkins.

"There's another musical legend and his name is Taylor Hawkins... I miss him every day," he told the audience.

"Fly on brother."
