MTV Are You The One's Therese Mullighan gives inside scoop on villa

Are You The One? has launched its first ever UK series and will feature a former Liverpool student.

Thérèse Mullaghan is one of 20 unlucky-in-love singletons hoping to find their special someone. Speaking to the ECHO, she promised "more drama than Shakespeare" following the first episode of the new series on Monday, August 8.

The healthcare worker entered the villa last year at the end of the August in hope to find her one true love.

Therese confesses she had not cried over a boy since she was 12 but ended up 'weeping like someone had died' over a 'man of few words'. She didn't date anyone seriously following a breakup with a long-term boyfriend three years ago who she thought she was 'set for life' with. After a long lockdown with her father she was eager to get out on the dating scene.

She told the ECHO: "Honestly I can promise you drama drama drama. There is more than Shakespeare. I did cry over a guy, he is a man of very few words so I don't think he knew what was going on. When you are in a situation like that your emotions are heightened time a thousand.

"I haven't cried over a boy since I was 12 and there I am on the tele box sweeping like someone died. I was told my ex-boyfriend watched the show. I haven't received a message from him but he has such a good heart. I know he would be happy for me."

The Irish-born now living in London along with the other contestants are given a set amount of bottles to drink on set which they drink freely. Some drink more than others as the drama therapy student said she could drink most of the boys under the table with her Irish heritage and years living in Liverpool.

Contestants were flown over to Malta with a 48kg bag allowance last year where they had to quarantine two weeks before filming. Before arriving Therese explains how nerve-wracking it was but also how she was excited to meet new people and make new friends.

Thérèse told the ECHO: "Oh my gosh, I was so nervous. The feeling is so surreal. I didn't have love at first sight. I was completely unsure. All the boys were super hot and they all looked so amazing individually.

"You looked at one boy then you would look at another. They all had their own attractive traits. I had been in lockdown all year with my dad. It had been a very long time since I had seen such good-looking boys and so many of them."

The show put together 20 singletons in a villa and among them is their scientific 'perfect match' and all they have to do is find them in a chance to win £200,000. This is a prize of £10,000 each and their perfect partner. The group needs to find the ten biologically perfect pairs through chemistry-driven tests. The first challenge was 'Truth or Dare'.
