Michigan State hockey was unable to hold on late to complete the sweep of Penn State on Saturday.
The Spartans gave up a powerplay goal in the final minutes of the third period, which resulted in the game heading to overtime. After five scoreless minutes in overtime, Penn State would come out victorious in the shootout. The final score was officially 2-2 with both teams earning a tie but Penn State received the extra point in Big Ten standings from the shootout victory.
Michigan State beat Penn State on Friday night and will leave Happy Valley with four of the six conference points this weekend. Michigan State is now 18-2-2 overall and still hasn’t lost a game in regulation or overtime since early December.
Next up for the Spartans is a home-and-home series with rival Michigan next weekend. Michigan State will first head to Ann Arbor on Friday, before hosting the Wolverines on Saturday at Munn Ice Arena.
