Michigan State football head coach Jonathan Smith provided a positive injury update for starting tight end Jack Velling on Monday.
Velling experienced a scary injury in last week’s home win vs. Purdue, but it appears he is doing better and may even play this week. During his weekly press conference, Smith said Velling has cleared all tests so far and is doing well. His playing status for this week’s game remains unclear at this time, though.

Velling took a hard hit from a Purdue defender on a high pass and was instantly down on the ground injured. The medical team came out to assess and quickly brought out the cart and then placed on the backboard.
Velling gave the stadium a thumbs up as he was taken off the field, and then transported to a local hospital.
Velling followed Smith from Oregon State to Michigan State this past offseason. He has started every game for the Spartans, and has recorded 31 receptions for 334 yards this year.
