MSU Basketball survives scare, beats Penn State at home

Michigan State basketball survived and extended its winning streak on Wednesday night.

The Spartans made just enough plays in the second half to fend off Penn State and pick up a victory from the Breslin Center, 90-85. The victory extended the Spartans’ winning streak to 10-games, which is the longest winning streak for Michigan State since 2018.

Michigan State controlled throughout the first half, leading by as many as 12 points in the opening frame. Penn State cut into that lead but a strong finish to the opening frame gave Michigan State a 46-36 lead going into the break.

Penn State came out firing in the second half and quickly cut into the Spartans’ lead out of the break. Michigan State never trailed in the second half, but their lead was rarely in the double-digits, with Penn State keeping the game close throughout the second half.

Michigan State was led in scoring by Frankie Fidler, who finished the night with 18 points. He had 14 of his 18 points in the second half to lead the Spartans to the victory. Michigan State also got 16 points from Jaden Akins and 10 from Tre Holloman in the win.

Michigan State basketball will return to the court on Sunday in a home ranked matchup against Illinois. Tipoff from the Breslin Center is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET, with the game being televised on CBS.
