MSU Basketball remains hot, handles Northwestern in road win

Michigan State basketball stays hot with another impressive road victory on Sunday.

The Spartans used a dominant first half performance to get past pesty Northwestern on Sunday, winning by the final score of 78-68. The Spartans never trailed in the second half, and held a double-digit lead for most of the game.

Michigan State blitzed the Wildcats in the first half to build a monster halftime lead. The Spartans used a 22-3 run to break open a tied game, and give Michigan State a 47-28 lead at the break.

Northwestern would cut into the Spartans’ lead during the second half, but never got the game closer than eight points.

Michigan State got an all-around team effort, with Jaden Akins leading the Spartans in scoring with 14 points. Jase Richardson had 13 points to follow, and Jeremy Fears was right behind with 12 points and eight assists.

With the win, Michigan State is now 14-2 overall and 5-0 in Big Ten play. The Spartans have now won nine straight games and are tied with rival Michigan for first place in the Big Ten.

Next up for the Spartans is a home matchup against Penn State on Wednesday. Tipoff from the Breslin Center is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on Big Ten Network.
