MSP donates mother of the bride dress to West Lothian charity shop and urges others to give support

MSP Fiona Hyslop is calling on West Lothian women with style to support and use the Armadale Resource Centre as she donates mother of the bride dress

The MSP for the Linlithgow visited the Armadale Resource Centre at 59 A South Street where she donated her own dress to their growing occasion wear department.

Fiona visited the Armadale Resource Centre to hear more about the work they do, which includes food distribution, community outreach with music classes for children and baby and toddler groups, sewing and crafts and horticulture, income advice and running a furniture and clothing charity shop on the premises.

The Armadale shop opened in October 2022. It provides occasion wear at very affordable prices for typically expensive events such as weddings and proms, allowing women who want to dress in style to celebrate at weddings and other events in an affordable way during the cost of living crisis. Sales from the shop also help to fund the West Lothian Foodbank.

Fiona said: “I was delighted to visit the Armadale Resource Centre, meet staff and volunteers, and find out more about the invaluable work they do. I commended the Shop in a speech in the Scottish Parliament in January, and it was wonderful to see in person the essential support they provide to the community.

“I was also pleased to donate my own mother of the bride dress to the shop. Weddings in particular are costly events and, now more than ever, it is important that people can have the opportunity to celebrate these events in an affordable way. Although it has sentimental value, as with other women I don’t think I would wear it again to any other wedding so I am more than happy to donate it.

“I would encourage my Constituents to visit the Armadale shop to donate their own ‘Occasion Wear’ outfits or to buy some of the beautiful items on display.

“West Lothian women are known for their style and I am sure at the back of their wardrobes many will have Wedding outfits or Prom dresses they could donate to help others and support West Lothian Foodbank.

“The occasion wear department has a lovely space with seats and changing rooms to visit with family and friends. It’s good to hear they are engaging with local secondary schools as girls prepare for their proms.

manager, Sharon Paterson, added: “We would like to invite everyone to visit us at Armadale Resource Centre where you will find good quality babies’, kids’, ladies’ and gents’ clothes at very affordable prices. The Resource centre is also home to our new furniture shop where quality and price is exceptional.

“We have just opened our Prom, Gala Day and Occasion Wear department, with beautiful garments with matching accessories.”
