World records tend to be two clearly different categories.
First are the ones at the Olympics or other sporting events. Second are the sometimes more dubious ones as cataloged by Guinness World Records. These can be semiserious but they also include thousands of silly records like "world's biggest pizza" and "world's longest fingernails."

MSC Cruises has a longstanding relationship with Guinness World Records and plans to expand that throughout its entire fleet.
"Guests have had the chance to break official Guinness World Records through a variety of activities ever since MSC Cruises introduced the entertainment program on two of its ships, MSC Seascape and MSC World Europa, in March of last year," the cruise line wrote. "It is now available on 12 ships and will be rolled out across all of the company’s fleet within the next year."
To date, MSC Cruises guests and crew have broken 30 Guinness World Records.
"From being the fastest to pull 100 meters of rope (about the length of a football field), to being the quickest to complete 20 chair rotations in under 21 seconds, or putting the most socks on one foot in under 30 seconds, guests have attained record-breaking glory in a variety of quirky ways," it added.
MSC Cruises wants to set family records
While cruising at sea, guests can participate in record-breaking activities during the day and audition for the main evening show, where the finalists can demonstrate their talents and aim to become the next iconic record holders.
“Guinness World Records exemplifies the kind of successful activities we offer on MSC Cruises’ ships, engaging the entire family," said MSC Cruises' senior manager of family entertainment, Matteo Mancini.
"It’s heartwarming to see all ages come together to compete and play. On our ships, everyone can be a star, and Guinness World Records now is not only in the book or in the TV show but has become an unmissable on-board live experience for all,"
Any new record breakers are verified by a Guinness Official Adjudicator and awarded a Guinness World Records certificate, "giving guests ultimate bragging rights and incredible memories to look back on," according to MSC.
