Keeping white towels fresh can feel like an impossible task - especially if you use them when you still have make-up on at the end of the day. The stains can soon build up and start making the towel look grimy, and with every wash, they can start to look unsightly and grey in colour - which if you're a hotel owner, is no good.
A B&B owner took to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page to say that he was having trouble with making his towels look as good as new after guests had stayed overnight. He was getting really 'frustrated' with the situation and didn't know what to do.
He wrote: "Good morning. I run a busy B&B and have a problem with stained towels!!
"Mainly hand towels where I believe make-up is the main culprit! I've tried everything to get the dark grey stains out of bright white towels. I've tried stain remover, individual make-up stain remover, Oxy powder, using bleach just on the mark, etc.
"Obviously on a 95° wash cycle. Soaking in bleach destroys the expensive towers. If anybody has any ideas please please let me know. Thanks in advance."
In the comments, many people suggested a household staple - Napisan. 800g of it can be bought from Wilko for just £3.20, and it keeps towels looking brighter and stain-free for longer, and banishes bacteria.
"Try soaking in Napisan", someone wrote, whereas many people simply just wrote "Napisan."
Another suggested: "Use soda crystals and Napisan in the washing machine with your usual detergent. Supply microfibre make-up remover cloths that you can wash, then it saves towels."
Others said he could get darker towels, or patterned ones, so they wouldn't ruin as easily.
"Dark-coloured towels or deposit should be taken on check-in", someone else wrote, and others agreed with the potential of taking a deposit to ensure the towels weren't ruined.
Have you tried Napisan? Let us know in the comments.
