Mrs Hinch fan shares £3 carpet cleaning trick - perfect for the toughest stains

Household pets like cats and dogs may well be the cutest things to look at, but they definitely know how to make a mess - especially when they're feeling a little bored.

From knocked over drinks to eyesore yellow stains, even the best behaved four-legged friends can wreak havoc every now and then.

One pet owner who will agree with the aforementioned statement recently took to social media in sight of advice, after her adorable puppy knocked over a plant and completely destroyed her carpet through left behind soil.

The Mirror reports that thankfully for the pet owner, cleaning gurus came to the rescue with handy hacks on removing mucky messes - with one prominent £3 trick which could save you from calling in otherwise costly professional help. Posting to Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips, the dog owner shared a snap of her cheeky pup alongside her plea for help.

She wrote: "Please help. Or send help. Or send prayers. Anything really," explaining that she had tried to remedy the situation, only to make the mess worse. In the second photo, the aftermath of a failed clean-up attempt is clear.

Thankfully, there were lots of people on hand to help out in an instance, which Facebook users rapid to respond with their tips and tricks to revitalise upholstery. Some obviously said to send in the experts, with one writing: "I'd be getting that professionally cleaned, it’ll be worth the money," while another, suggested: "You need to get a professional company in."

But several people thought a DIY job could do the trick if the homeowner tackled the problem in the right way, much to the homeowners delight. Commenters simply agreed that it is best to let any spilled soil dry out before going in with any carpet cleaner, to avoid making more mess.

One, commented: "The drier it is, the easier it will be to vacuum. Get as much as possible out before you get any wet on it. May take a few days/ attempts," while a second, replied: "I agree, let it dry completely, then vacuum again. You may also need a carpet cleaner."

Meanwhile, other advisers shared their favourite cleaning products. "Let it dry completely then try good old fashioned bicarbonate . Brush it in, brush it out," read one reply.

But others were full of praise for Dr Beckmann's products. "Wait for it to dry perhaps use a hair dryer then hoover then use carpet cleaner solution Dr Beckmann," said one fan.

"Try Dr Beckmann carpet cleaner that usually works but read instructions first. Bless you. Good luck," agreed a different commenter.

Dr Beckmann's sells a range of products including carpet stain remover, which is available for £2.80 from Wilko. The product's advert reads: "With its powerful oxy formula and built-in brush, Dr Beckmann Carpet Stain Remover 650ml effectively removes heavy soil and unsightly spills such as red wine, coffee, fruit juice, grease and other common household stains from carpets and upholstery.

"Oxy-powered neutralises odours including pets."

Thankfully, it sounds like the pet owner has plenty of options available to her, from professional cleaning to DIY or hiring a carpet cleaner, which many recommended as a third option.
