Mrs Brown's Boys viewers divided as some blast 'unwatchable' RTE Christmas special

Mrs Brown's Boys viewers were left divided after watching this year's Christmas Special on RTE.

The 2022 Christmas episode - titled 'Shining Mammy' - aired on Christmas night, continuing a long tradition of the sitcom returning for festive specials.

Dublin matriarch Agnes Brown, played by Brendan O'Carroll, returned once again - but some claimed the episode was "unwatchable".

Viewers watched as Mrs Brown’s unlucky-in-love daughter Cathy began dating a strange Englishman, who Agnes’s friend believed might be a vampire.

But the episode divided many, as people took to Twitter to voice their opinions at the show, Dublin Live reports.

Some loyal fans praised the comedy, while others said the show needed to be axed.

One person said: "@MrsBrownsBoys has gone beyond being stupid, it's now unwatchable not funny in the slightest, turned off after 13 minutes."

Another fed-up TV watcher said: "Somebody needs to tell that Brendan Carroll man that Mrs Brown's Boys has reached the end of its natural life.

"Same old jokes over and over again. It's dull and it's boring! It needs to be axed and the BBC needs to stop recommissioning it!"

A third person called it "awful", while another viewer said: "Put my foot down: refused to let parents watch #mrsbrownsboys last night at my parents’ house."

Others praised the show, with one person saying: "Fantastic as always. Best part of the Christmas viewing! The newest recruits did a great job, even if the characters were a little bit creepy lol"

Someone else wrote: "Watched all the Christmas specials today, they always cheer me up!"

A third commented: "Merry Christmas, you give me joy every year!"

Mrs Brown's Boys will be returning for four episodes in 2023 after the Christmas Day special episode.
