Mrs Brown’s Boys fans have been left delighted after it was confirmed that the hit BBC comedy would be returning for a fourth mini-series. Despite regular festive episodes, it’s been ten years since a new series was produced.
Filming for the much-anticipated commission, created by Brendan O’Carroll who plays the mischievous matriarch Agnes Brown, will get underway this Spring. Previous episodes have been recorded at BBC Scotland’s Headquarters in Glasgow, but it’s not yet known if this new series will also be shot there.
Speaking of his delight, Brendan O’Carroll said: “This mini-series was actually planned for 2021. Having been thwarted twice, firstly by Covid-19 and then by a post Covid shortage of studios, it’s fantastic to, at last, have the chance to make it happen. Fasten your seatbelts and hold onto your hats!”

Josh Cole, Head of Comedy, BBC Studios and Steven Canny, Executive Producer said: “There’s no one quite like Mrs. Brown. An absolute force of outrageous wit and slapstick that has audiences hooked and belly laughing. It’s great to be back.”
Jon Petrie, Director of Comedy added: “BBC Comedy are pleased to announce that after a decade since the last full series of Mrs.Browns Boys, millions of viewers around the UK will be thrilled to hear that Brendan is bringing Agnes and the family back together for a brand-new mini-series of his award-winning show.”
However, there's been a mixed reaction to the announcement on social media, with one person saying: "Ugh...Mrs Brown Boys returning. I hope it's funnier then the Christmas special ones." Another added: "This is such good news. I was gutted it got cancelled because of the pandemic."
A third commented: "I'll give this new series a try, but it's going to take a lot to keep me hooked. Happy for the cast though." While a fourth wrote: "Not sure what I think about this. Excited to see what it'll be like I suppose."
