Mr X Christmas appeal has biggest year yet as thousands of children are given a special gift

Swansea's Mr. X Team says it had its biggest year yet with Christmas gifts handed to more than 8,000 children in south Wales. Now running in its 63rd year, the annual Christmas appeal covers Neath Port Talbot, Swansea, Carmarthen, Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Cardiff and aims to give disadvantaged kids a present for Christmas Day.

.Mr X himself passed away six years ago - but left an inspiring legacy which brings people across south Wales together united in one aim: to give children from low-income or underprivileged families from across the region gifts and presents to open on Christmas Day. You can read more about it here.

Now the big day itself has passed and many of the volunteers - including the new Mr X himself - are taking a well-earned rest, the team has thanked everyone for their efforts. They said: "We would like to thank all the lovely people who donated a gift to the Mr. X Appeal in 2022. This was our 63rd year, it was our biggest yet, with a bag of gifts being donated to over 8,000 needy children in the South/South West Wales area, taking in Neath Port Talbot, Swansea, Carmarthen, Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Cardiff.

"All names were supplied from over 100 childcare agencies in these areas. We also managed to help other organisations who were struggling. Thank you to all the Mr/Mrs X’s in the various organisation’s who collected lists of names from us, gave the names out to individuals in their organisation, and gathered them in at the end ready for collection by our volunteers."

The team also thanked Associated British Ports for allowing the use of their Swansea offices as a distribution centre. They added: "It has become a home from home for the volunteers who relentlessly worked at sorting deliveries, checking bags and allocating them to the correct child.

"We also thank Days Rentals for once again supplying us with a sign written van, Waddle Insurance for supplying the insurance and Daniel Signs for supplying the signs for the van. A special thanks goes to Britannia Robbins Storage who very kindly lent and transported a large container to Swansea Docks so that we could store all the extra donations we received. We also thank Neath Port Talbot Council, Swansea City Council and Cardiff Council for their help and support."

Thank yous were also due to all the drop off points across the region as well as all the hard-working individual volunteers, Morriston Rotary Club and the Retired Union Branch Members who worked continuously sorting, collecting, and delivering presents to the childcare agencies.

Finally, the Mr X team said: "Every gift is a smile on a child's face so thank you from the bottom of our hearts."
