THE massive success of a Godzilla video game, produced in Elgin, has been celebrated in the UK Parliament.
Godzilla x Kong: Titan Chasers, which is available on Android and Google Play, quickly rose to the top of the iOS free games chart shortly after its February 25 release.
It currently boasts a 4.6 out of 5 rating on the Google Play store, with one critic saying the app “offers a fun, experience with the excitement of commanding iconic Titans”.
The game is based on the Legendary Pictures “Monsterverse” which sees giant monsters, including Godzilla, King Kong and Mothra, do battle and cause unfathomable levels of property damage across some of the world’s largest cities.
In an Early Day Motion in Parliament, Moray West, Nairn and Strathspey MP Graham Leadbitter congratulated Scottish studio, Hunted Cow Games, for the game’s chart-topping success.
He said: “This House congratulates Elgin-based games development company Hunted Cow on the outstanding success of their latest game, recognises that Godzilla x Kong: Titan Chasers, has reached the number one spot on the iOS free games chart in both the UK and the US"
He continued that they: "recognises the significant achievement of this Moray-based company in the global gaming industry; commends the contribution of Hunted Cow to the growing creative industries sector in Scotland".
He finished by saying the house: "notes that the company's success highlights the increasing opportunities for skilled jobs in game development within Moray and beyond; and wishes Hunted Cow ongoing success in their future projects.”
He said after the motion: “This is a remarkable achievement for a local games studio with a great track record.
“Hunted Cow are an iconic local success story, so I was more than happy to table a motion in parliament reflecting the pride the town has for their team and their accomplishment.
"Their success is not just testament to Scotland's world-class video games industry, and a big win for the area, but is proof that that Elgin can compete with anywhere on anything.
“I wish them all the best for the future and can’t wait to see what they come up with next.”
The highly praised game sees players team up online in groups of four to take down giant monsters in a survival setting.
2020’s Godzilla x Kong and 2024’s Godzilla x Kong: The Lost Kingdom received mixed critical reviews upon their respective releases but proved a hit for fans of giant monster movies.
Other games produced by Hunted Cow include Warhammer: Chaos and Conquest, an online strategy take on the classic tabletop game.
