Mowgli Street Food Edinburgh: First look at plans for new Indian street food restaurant

Foodies have been given a sneak peek at a popular Indian street food chain set to open in the capital.

Mowgli has restaurants in a number of cities across the UK, including Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Oxford.

However, this is the first time that the Indian street food experts will be venturing north of the border.

Edinburgh Live previously reported in December that the street food chain will be opening a branch in 2020.

Mowgli later announced they had signed a lease on a fancy property on Hanover Street, in a former bank just off Princes Street.

Founded by Nisha Katona in 2014, the restaurant prides itself on simple dishes that differentiate themselves from the "curry stereotype".

"These dishes convey the truth that real Indian food is extremely healthy, often vegan and always packed with fresh flavour", they say.

Mowgli's other restaurants feature quirky decor, including benches suspended from ropes, fairy lights and indoor trees, we had high expectations.

Pictures submitted to Edinburgh Council's planning department reveal a first look at the new diner.

They show a stunning bar, as well as cosy dining area filled with tables that are ideal for street food style sharing.

In the application, plans are also revealed for "swing seats" and "tree tables" - which sound very exciting indeed.
