Mowgli on Bold Street closed 'due to unforeseen circumstances'

Mowgli, the beloved Indian restaurant on Bold Street, has temporarily closed "due to unforeseen circumstances".

The phenomenally popular venue specialises in authentic Indian street food, inspired by "how Indians eat at home and on their streets". Founded in Liverpool by Nisha Katona, the restaurant has gone from strength to strength since the first venue opened in 2014.

Nisha swapped her 20 year career as a full time barrister in order to build Mowgli Liverpool, much to the delight of local food lovers and tourists. Now, the Indian chain boasts several sites across England, with two Liverpool venues and restaurants in Manchester, Leeds, Oxford, Birmingham and more.

Its beloved Bold Street restaurant has currently shut up shop "until further notice". A handwritten sign on the glass door to the venue reads: "Due to unforeseen circumstances we are closed until further notice".

The Mowgli website will not currently permit bookings for Bold Street. Instagram stories published to the brand's official account show customers tucking into food at the venue less than 24 hours ago. Its Water Street venue is still available for bookings.

A Mowgli spokesperson confirmed the temporary closure is due to the property above suffering several burst pipes, which has caused "some disruption". It is believed repairs are currently underway, with the hope that the restaurant will be able to reopen this evening.

Mowgli's two Liverpool venues can be found at 3 Water Street, Liverpool, L2 0RD, and 69 Bold Street, Liverpool, L1 4EZ.
