Have you got the moves like Jagger? Then you might just be interested in purchasing The Rolling Stones’ former London party pad in Marylebone, which has come on the market for the first time in 30 years for the celebrity-friendly price of £5.5 million.
The scene of many a raucous party for the rockstar and his rather hedonistic crowd — from girlfriend Marianne Faithfull and bandmate Keith Richards to HRH Princess Margaret and ‘it’ girl Jean Shrimpton, amongst countless other A-listers — it’s a chance to snap up a rare piece of pop culture heritage (bragging rights, are of course, included within the sale).
“For the last 30 years, the sub-penthouse in Harley House has been owned by a Japanese businessman who has lived between this London home and Japan,” explains Rosy Khalastchy, director and head of Beauchamp Estates in St. John’s Wood and Marylebone, the agency that’s sharing the listing with Prime London. “He’s now retiring and moving back to Japan full-time, which is why the Jagger pad has come up for sale now.”

But what exactly is a sub-penthouse?
“It means it’s part of a collection of sizeable apartments that are located on the floor just beneath the top floor that’s occupied by the penthouses,” Rosy explains. “When Jagger lived at Harley House, there was just one floor of penthouses above his, but during the 1980s a developer added another floor above, so the top three floors now boast a collection of extremely spacious apartments — one of which belonged to Jagger.”
The landmark Edwardian mansion building offers would-be rock ‘n’ rollers no less than 2,495-square-foot of decadent living space directly adjacent to Regent’s Park with four bedrooms, two reception rooms, a grand entrance hall and ceiling heights of up to 10-foot. Other highlights include parquet flooring, French windows opening onto a balcony that runs the entire width of the apartment and a large bay window and spacious dressing room in what was once Jagger’s own bedroom.

Providing a glamorous backdrop to plenty of sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll, Jagger’s former residence has been immortalised in his biography, Mick & Keith: Parallel Lines by Chris Salewicz, as well as portraits by Gered Mankowitz in the drawing room and on the roof, while Jagger famously dumped the belongings of ex-girlfriend Chrissie Shrimpton in the foyer of the building and paparazzi gathered outside after the musician was alleged to have taken LSD in the building.
Rosy adds: “The most notable thing that has survived from Mick’s time to the current day is his hippie lounge, a wonderful snug where he could relax and chill out in, and in which he was photographed during the 1960s. It’s now a meditation room used by the current owner.”

Jagger moved into the sub-penthouse after the successes of (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction and Get off of my Cloud between 1966 and 1968 before purchasing an apartment in Chester Square in Belgravia. The iconic property is well-positioned for those who want to follow in Jagger’s footsteps, too, with the star’s regular haunts like Harrods and San Lorenzo on the doorstep in nearby Beauchamp Place. The restaurants and shops of Marylebone High Street, Baker Street underground station, Harley Street clinics and the greenery of Regent’s Park are all within swaggering distance to boot.
A party pad with a prime location and cool heritage? Music to our ears.
