Kylian Mbappe scored twice in the space of two minutes to drag France back into the World Cup final after Argentina raced into an early lead.
Lionel Messi scored in the opening 30 minutes from the penalty spot after Angel Di Maria was felled by Ousmane Dembele. Argentina then doubled their lead in the 36th minute when Di Maria converted a delightful pass by Alexis Mac Allister.
France had significant work to do if they were going to retain their crown with Didier Deschamps making a double substitution five minutes before half time. Randal Kolo Muani, who was one of the players introduced, made a significant impact on the game, winning France a penalty with ten minutes to go.
