Moussa Dembele recreates Celtic icon Henrik Larsson’s famous goal against Rangers with Lyon blockbuster

Moussa Dembele has sent Celtic a message ahead of Wednesday's derby with Rangers, wishing his old side all the best ahead of the momentous midweek clash.

Dembele has a special place in Parkhead folklore particularly for his goalscoring form against their bitter rivals.

He netted seven times in nine games against Rangers during his time in Glasgow's east end including a stunning hat-trick in 2016.

Nowadays he's leading the line for Lyon and was among the goals with a wonderful winner against Marseille on Tuesday night.

Dembele took a long ball from Xherdan Shaqiri in his stride before spinning a defender with his first touch and dinking keeper Pau Lopez.

And it wasn't long before Celtic fans caught sight of it and began comparing it to Henrik Larsson at his finest.

Fans had described the finish as "Larsson-esque" on Twitter, insisting the goal resembled his August 2000 chip over Stefan Klos.

And that was enough invitation for Dembele to respond as he tweeted: "Larsson-esque! I'm grateful for the comparison with the King. Wish you guys to do the job as well tomorrow."

Celtic face Rangers looking to leapfrog them at the top of the Premiership table.

The gap sits at two points after Ange Postecoglou's team gained some ground on their title rivals at the weekend although the boss isn't getting too carried away about the prospect of nicking top spot.

"It won't mean anything significant (to go top of the table) because that's not the end game,” Postecoglou said.

“You don't get a trophy for being first in February. Our goal and mission is to be there at the end.

“It's not that it's an insignificant moment, it's just that we have to keep going. It's not like when you are in first place that we will get an advantage over teams and it will be easy for us. It's going to be a battle every day."
