Mournes walker hospitalised with 'crush injury' after Co Down mountain incident

A person has been rescued by the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team following a "crush injury" suffered on Monday morning while on a mountain in the Annalong Valley.

It is believed the injury was to their leg and was caused by a falling boulder.

The injury was reported to police at around 10.10am on Monday.

"At 1010hrs this morning the team received a request via Police to an individual who suffered a crush injury while walking," a post on the MMRT Facebook page read.

"Alongside requesting Ambulance support, the team responded to the Annalong Valley where the casualty had suffered a serious lower limb injury as a result of a falling boulder.

"Once reached, the casualty was treated and immobilised before a stretcher evacuation to team vehicle.

"After a short transfer, the casualty was passed to Ambulance Service for further treatment and onward transfer to Hospital.

"A total of 14 members responded and stood down at 1311hrs.

"Thanks again to Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS)HART & Crew in attendance."

An NIAS spokesperson confirmed they had been called to teh scene.

"The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 10:37 on Monday 8 May following reports of an incident in the Head Road area of Annalong," the spokesperson said.

"NIAS despatched a HART team and an emergency crew to the incident.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, working alongside Mourne Mountain Rescue, one patient was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast."
