Mountain West Football’s 2022 Schedule Released
The Mountain West wasted little time this offseason unveiling its schedule for the upcoming 2022 college football season.

With 192 days to go until the start of college football season, the Mountain West unveiled its full 2022 conference schedule today.

The non-conference slate has been set in stone for a while now and will see the Mountain West debut with four games during Week 0 on August 27: Vanderbilt at Hawaii, Nevada at New Mexico State, UConn at Utah State, and Wyoming at Illinois. The first two games in that quartet will mark the head coaching debuts of Hawaii’s Timmy Chang and Nevada’s Ken Wilson.
Mountain West play begins the week of September 10 when New Mexico hosts Boise State, culminating with the first full week of conference play on October 8.
Each team’s trio of interdivision games remain the same as it was in 2021, though the home venue for each is flipped from last year. Owing to some wrinkles from the abbreviated COVID season two years ago, it also means some matchups will be happening for the third straight year. For instance, Fresno State faced New Mexico at Las Vegas’s Sam Boyd Stadium in 2020, hosted the Lobos in 2021, and will head to Albuquerque on October 22. Hawaii, meanwhile, will host Wyoming in the battle for the Paniolo Trophy on October 29 after two straight trips to Laramie.
Like 2021, the final week of the regular season will feature a mix of traditional intradivision rivalry games and interdivision clashes.
Among other games of note:
- San Diego State will play its first home game against Arizona at Snapdragon Stadium on Saturday, September 3, the first of three September home games at the Aztecs’ new friendly confines before heading to Boise State to open Mountain West play on Saturday, October 1.
- Air Force’s narrow loss to Utah State ended up costing the Falcons a shot at the Mountain division crown last fall. Now, they’ll head to Logan on Saturday, October 8 looking for a measure of revenge on the defending conference champions.
- San Jose State will also make a trip to Logan to face Utah State on November 19, marking a battle between the last two Mountain West title winners.
- Danny Gonzales’s New Mexico Lobos have had Wyoming’s number the past couple years, so the Cowboys will look to reverse their fortunes when the two teams meet at Dreamstyle Stadium on October 8.
- Colorado State will head to Nevada on October 8, marking Jay Norvell’s return to Reno after leaving to become the Rams’ head coach back in December.
- The latest chapter in the battle for the Milk Can will also take place in Boise on October 8, when Fresno State hits the road to face the Broncos.
- Nevada Day falls on Friday, October 28 this year, but this year’s clash for the Fremont Cannon between Nevada and UNLV will take place at Allegiant Stadium on November 26.
The Mountain West football championship game is scheduled for Saturday, December 3.
