CAIRNGORM Mountain Resort has launched new family-friendly mountain biking trails.
This comes as part of the resort’s summer offering, which also includes guided walks and al fresco dining.
Described by the Cairngorm Mountain Resort as a “gravity-style mountain bike park,” the trails are suitable for a variety of skill levels, from young children to adults.
“Gravity-style” mountain biking is is mostly downhill.
The mountain bike park covers 3km and has nine different trails.
These trails are graded as green, blue and red, with the green trails aimed at beginners and the blue and red designed for intermediate and advanced cyclists.
Susan Smith, chief executive of Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Limited (CMSL), said: “We are thrilled to be launching the family-friendly mountain bike park as part of our new and exciting range of summer activities. By repurposing the conveyor uplifts and existing infrastructure, visitors can enjoy the natural mountain environment in every season.”
The lower bike park, which includes green and some blue trails, is accessible by these two refurbished 100m conveyor uplifts, which have previously been used in the winter for snowsports.
The other blue trails and all red trails can be reached by a purpose-built climb trail.
Visitors to the park can choose to hire or use their own bike.
There are a range of bikes available for hire, including electric bikes, standard adult sizes and balance bikes for small children.
Helmets and pads are also available for hire, to ensure that visitors can stay safe while enjoying the trails.
The park itself can be accessed by using the new Aviemore Adventurer bus, which runs a frequent service from Aviemore to the Cairngorm Mountain Resort.
Secure storage is available on the bus for bikes and other belongings.
Tickets for the bike park cost from £7.50 for a half-day child ticket, £9 for a half-day youth ticket (ages 8-15) and £16 for a half-day adult ticket.
The new biking trails are part of what CMSL describes as a “25-year Cairngorm Masterplan to create a year-round resort".
Other new openings at the resort include guided walks to the Cairn Gorm summit, mountain tubing and an expansion to the viewing terrace, allowing for al fresco dining and drinking.
