A SEARCH has been launched for a missing Scottish hillwalker after his car was found in the Highlands.
Ian Ross, from Dingwall, had not spoken to his family since Sunday, September 8 – and was reported missing on September 17 after they were unable to contact him.
The 65-year-old’s car – a grey Dacia Duster – was traced to the car park at the foot of Beinn Alligin, near Torridon in the western Highlands, on September 18.
Police said that mountain rescue teams have become involved in search operations, which are focused around the Beinn Alligin area.
Ross is described as white, 5ft9 in height, of slim build and with wavy grey hair. It is not known what he was wearing at the time of his disappearance.
Sergeant Duncan Birse, from Dingwall Police Station, said: “Mr Ross was last spoken to by family on Sunday, 8 September. He is in regular contact with his family and when they hadn’t heard from him for a week, they contacted police.
“He is a keen hill-walker, and due to the fact of where his car was found, we have experienced officers along with colleagues from local mountain mountain rescue teams searching Beinn Alligin and the nearby areas in an effort to trace him.
“We’d ask that anyone who may have seen Mr Ross since Sunday, 8 September, or his grey Dacia Duster car to get in touch.
“Information can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote incident number 2381 of Tuesday, 17 September 2024 when calling.”
