Mount, James, Loftus-Cheek - Chelsea injury round-up and potential return dates

Chelsea will look to continue the momentum from their recent FIFA Club World Cup success into Saturday upon their return to domestic action.

The Blues defeated Brazilian side Palmeiras 2-1 after extra-time on Saturday in the final of the Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi, to be crowned champions of the world.

But now all focus turns back to the Premier League, in which they played their last fixture on January 23, before the two week winter break.

And Thomas Tuchel has had a few players in the treatment room ahead of this weekend’s London derby with Crystal Palace, although he will hope for an injury boost before the 3pm kick-off.

Here is all you need to know about the current state of play at Stamford Bridge and the potential return dates for those who have been out injured.

Have Chelsea already guaranteed a top three finish this season? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Mason Mount

Midfielder Mason Mount is set to be out for up to two weeks after sustaining an ankle injury during the Club World Cup final last weekend.

The 23-year-old suffered the blow when a Palmeiras player fell on him during the first half of the game, which resulted in him being substituted and then leaving the stadium on crutches.

On Friday, Tuchel said: "We will push for the League Cup final. We will push. He has injured ligaments."

Reece James

Reece James was set for a potential return to the Chelsea squad for the trip to Crystal Palace this weekend, after missing out through injury following the 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion on December 29.

The right back has stepped up his recovery since, but has suffered a setback after catching the flu this week, and will therefore not return to the squad until next weekend.

In Friday's press conference, Tuchel said: "We had a setback when he caught the flu when he was close to team training. We are waiting for him. The plan is he will rejoin the group next week."

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be available again for Chelsea this weekend after recovering from a knock he picked up during the winter break, which kept him out of first team training.

The 26-year-old missed Chelsea’s FA Cup game with Plymouth Argyle on February 5 and didn’t travel with the squad to the Club World Cup last week, after it was revealed that the midfielder was 'nursing a minor injury'.

On Friday, Tuchel confirmed: "He had issue with his Achilles. Not a big injury but painful. It held him back from not being on the pitch. Since we've come back, he's been very strong and feels free. He is available for the game tomorrow."

Ben Chilwell

Ben Chilwell continues to be ruled out for the remainder of the season with an ACL injury he sustained in the 4-0 UEFA Champions League victory over Juventus in November.

The left back required surgery in December and it has therefore put him out for the long run.

However, Chilwell has begun his rehabilitation already, while he linked up with the rest of the squad in Abu Dhabi for the Club World Cup last week to step up his recovery.
