Gardai have warned one motorist that they "must try harder" - after trying to fool them with a tax disc to cover the fact they had "nothing".
The warning comes just days after a plea from the force to drivers to take care over the Easter weekend.
Road deaths have increased on this time last year, with the latest happening on Wednesday night as a teenager was killed in Kilkenny.
But one driver in the south-east caught the attention of gardai after a "creative" attempt to fool them into thinking their tax was up to date.
A Garda spokesperson took to Facebook to explain.
They wrote: "Must try harder....
"One of our gardai on the mountain bike captured this vehicle this morning.
"Driving on High Street with a 'creative' attempt at displaying current Tax, NCT and Insurance. Nothing was valid, vehicle seized and driver to face court for No Insurance, No NCT, No Tax, altered discs etc."
How bad was the tax disc situation?
The motorist was using one from an 2006 Volkswagen Golf.
Failure to display a current tax disc on your vehicle is considered a motoring offence and will result in a €60 fixed-charge fine issued by a traffic warden or a Garda.
Failure to have motor insurance or driving without insurance in Ireland is generally punishable by:
- A fine of up to €5,000
- 5 penalty points; and
- At the discretion of the court, a term of imprisonment not exceeding 6 months.
