Motorist caught driving 55km/h over speed limit in Lucan

A motorist was caught by gardai going 135km/h in an 80km/h zone in Lucan earlier today.

The driver was among 453 others caught speeding during National Slow Down Day. In the first 10 hours of the day, a total of 192,013 vehicles were checked for speeding.

The motorist was on the N4 in Lucan when they were detected traveling at 135km/h in a 80km/h Zone. An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.

A number of motorists in Dublin and surrounding areas have been pulled up for speeding throughout the day, including:


• 88km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the Coolock Lane Dublin17 Dublin
• 135km/h in a 80km/h Zone on the N4 Ballydowd Lucan Dublin
• 72km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the Leopardstown Road Dublin18 Dublin
• 83km/h in a 60km/h Zone on the R139 Belcamp Dublin17 Dublin
• 60km/h in a 50km/h Zone on the Drummartin Link Road Dublin14 Dublin
• 135km/h in a 120km/h Zone on the M1 Lusk Dublin
• 135km/h in a 120km/h Zone on the M1 Balgatheran Drogheda Louth
• 134km/h in a 120km/h Zone on the M2 Raystown Ashbourne Meath

A garda spokesman said: "An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads."
