A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital following a collision on the A1 in Northumberland.
At around 1.45pm on Tuesday, Northumbria Police were alerted to the collision by the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) who were in attendance at the scene. The collision involved a motorbike and a car on the A1 southbound near the junction with Chevington and Causey Park.
Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance. The A1 was closed in both directions by officers with diversions in place via the A697 from Alnwick and the A1068.
NEAS dispatched one ambulance crew and a clinical team leader, and requested support from Great North Air Ambulance Service.
The road has since reopened in both directions. The rider was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening, police have confirmed.
At the time of the collision, a Force spokeswoman said: “Shortly before 1.45pm today (Tuesday) Police were contacted by the North East Ambulance Service who were in attendance at the scene of a collision between a motorbike and a car on the A1 southbound near the junction with Chevington and Causey Park." As well as confirming the road closure the spokeswoman advised of diversions via the A697 from Alnwick and the A1068.
A North East Ambulance service spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the A1 southbound around the Causey Park area at 1.40pm this afternoon.
"We dispatched one ambulance crew and a clinical team leader, and requested support from Great North Air Ambulance Service. One patient has been flown to the RVI for further treatment."
