A motorcyclist who fell into a massive sinkhole in the South Korean capital Seoul was found dead after a 17-hour search, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The sinkhole, roughly 20 metres wide and deep, opened at an intersection in Myeongil-dong on Monday afternoon, swallowing the motorcyclist and injuring a woman in a passing van. Emergency teams recovered the man’s body before noon Tuesday, along with his motorcycle and phone.
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has called for an investigation into the cause of the collapse to prevent future incidents.
