Motorcyclist fighting for life after horror crash in Cairngorms

A biker is fighting for his life in hospital after a horror crash in the Cairngorms.

We previously reported how Emergency crews, including Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service, raced to the A939 at Dirdhu, near Bridge of Brown.

The alarm was raised at around 3pm on Wednesday, June 15 of a serious two-vehicle crash.

The smash involved a Harley Davidson and a KTM motorbike.

Officers have now confirmed that following the event, the 57-year-old male driver of the Harley Davidson was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Hospital staff describe his condition as critical.

The 42-year-old female passenger was taken by Air Ambulance to the same hospital, and is in a serious but stable condition.

The 35-year-old driver of the KTM bike was, too, airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Medics say the driver is in a serious but stable condition.

The road between the Dorback junction and the B9136 junction was closed for around five hours while officers carried out enquiries into the incident.

It has since reopened.

Road Policing Officers want to hear from anyone who was driving on the A939 shortly before the event and who may have seen the motorbikes in question.

They added that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway.

Sergeant Alasdair Mackay of the Divisional Road Policing Unit at Dingwall said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the crash.

“I would appeal to anyone with information, or anyone who was driving on the A939 near to Dirdhu shortly before the crash happened who may have seen these motorbikes being driven to contact us.

"If you were on this road around the time of the crash and have dash-cam footage, please let us know.”

Information can be passed to officers through 101 quoting reference 2072 of 15 June.
