Motorcyclist dies week after horror North Coast 500 crash as family hail 'devoted dad'

A biker has died over a week after he was involved in a horror crash while holidaying on the North Coast 500.

Adrian Placzek, from Worthing in West Sussex, was on his BMW motorbike on the A836 at Quarryside in Castletown, Caithness, on Tuesday, June 14, when he collided with a Skoda Karog car.

Emergency services raced to the scene of the 3.15pm horror and the 59-year-old was rushed to Caithness General Hospital, and then transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

On Wednesday, June 22, more than a week after the crash, the dad-of-two tragically passed away.

Adrian's loved ones have described him as a "devoted father".

His family have spoken for the first time about the "keen motorcycle enthusiast" who was enjoying a motorcycling holiday with friends on the NC500 when the incident happened.

They say he bravely fought numerous critical injuries for a week in intensive care before he died.

They have described him as "a devoted father to two young children, and his partner Linda" and say he will "always be remembered fondly by the family and friends he leaves behind."

Sergeant Ewan Calder, of Highland and Islands Road Policing, said: “We are continuing with enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this incident, and our sympathies are very much with Adrian's family at this distressing time.

"We would urge anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dashcam footage that could help our investigation, to please get in touch."

Local officers can be contacted via 101, quoting reference 2072 of June 14, 2022.
