Motorcyclist dies following collision in Galway as road to remain closed on Tuesday

A motorcyclist in his 20s has died following a single-vehicle collision in Galway City this evening.

The fatal accident occurred at around 7:30 pm on Monday, March 7, 2022, on Bóthar na dTreabh.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, however, this evening it was confirmed that the man was pronounced dead shortly after the crash.

The road remains closed for a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

These diversions are likely to remain active through to tomorrow morning, according to a statement from an Garda Siochana.

Officers are now appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage and were travelling in the Bóthar na dTreabh area of Galway City at the time of the collision are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

The statement released on Monday night read: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal single vehicle road traffic collision involving a motorcycle that occurred at approximately 7:30 pm on Monday, 7th March 2022, on Bóthar na dTreabh in Galway City.

“The motorcyclist, a man aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The crash site remains closed for a technical examination by Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place. The diversions are expected to remain in place tomorrow morning.

“Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the Bóthar na dTreabh area of Galway City at the time of the collision are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Galway Garda Station on 091 538000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
