A motorcyclist and a motorist were both pulled today for the same offence as gardai issued a stern warning.
The Roads Policing Units have been carrying out checkpoints as normal up and down the country in a bid to catch those speeding on the roads and causing danger to others.
The Clare branch was on patrol and detected a motorcyclist speeding and handed him a Fixed Charge Notice while reminding the public that 17 bikers have died so far this year.

Their post read: “Clare Roads Policing Unit, while conducting a checkpoint, detected this biker travelling at 72kph in a 50kph limit.
“The biker was issued an FCPN and reminded that there have been 17 bikers killed on the roads so far this year. #SlowDown”
Meanwhile, the Naas Roads Policing Unit were conducting speed checks when they found a car travelling 22 km/h over the speed limit.
After pulling the driver over, they discovered that they were an unaccompanied learner showing no L-plates and had no insurance either.
The car was seized and the driver will face proceedings for the several rule breaks.
“Naas RPU were conducting a speed check at Newbridge when they found this car travelling at 72kph in a 50kph area,” gardai said.
“Using the #MobilityDevice, it was found that Driver was an unaccompanied learner with no L-Plates & no Insurance.
“The car was seized & Proceedings are to follow.”
Gardai are reminding the public that “80 people have died on our roads so far this year.
“This isn't just a number, these are people, husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, friends, colleagues.
“We urge all road users to please stay safe when driving. Don't become another statistic.”
