A motorcyclist has been flown to hospital following a horror crash with a van in Blyth.
Emergency crews attended the scene on Renwick Road in Blyth from after 2.40pm on Tuesday following reports of a collision. The motorcyclist, who is believed to be in his 20s, was found to have sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash which involved a van.
The crash led to delays in the area with traffic moving slowly as a result between Claremont Terrace and Cypress Drive. A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said that the motorcyclist was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) as a result of the collision.
She said: “At about 2.40pm today (Tuesday), we received a report of a collision involving a van and a motorcycle on Renwick Road in Blyth. The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, has been airlifted to the RVI, with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening. The road has now re-opened.”
A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said that multiple crews were dispatched to the scene to provide assistance. She said: "We received a call at 2.40pm to reports of an injured person involved in a road traffic incident on the junction on Rosebery Avenue, Blyth.
"We dispatched one technician, two specialist paramedics, and requested the support of the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS). We took one patient by road to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) for further treatment."
Crews from the Great North Air ambulance also added that they were at the scene. A spokeswoman said: "Our crews were activated at 2.48pm today following reports of an RTC in Blyth. We arrived at 3.06pm."
The A193 reopened and congestion was cleared at approximately 4pm.
