The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene to assist police with their investigation and officers are now appealing to any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was on the A696 at the time and may have dash cam footage of the collision.

Witnesses are asked to contact police either through the 'Tell us Something' page on the Northumbria Police website, or by calling 101 and quoting NP-20230416-0388.
