A motorcycle rider has died in hospital in the Hunter overnight after she was thrown from her bike on Nelson Bay Road over the October long weekend.
Port Stephens police say they were called to the scene at Fullerton Cove on Friday afternoon, October 4, to look into reports a 55-year-old rider had crashed. They were later told, as a crime scene was established, that a ute had been travelling in front of the motorcycle.
Paramedics provided treatment at the scene before the woman was rushed to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition, where she died.
Officers have since spoken to the 55-year-old Chisholm man who had been driving the ute, who was taken to Maitland Hospital for mandatory testing.
Police say their inquiries into the crash are ongoing and have asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
