A MOTORBIKE rider was fighting for life in hospital last night after a serious crash north of Newcastle.
Emergency services were called to Haussman Drive at Thornton just after 8.30pm on Wednesday, October 23, after reports a motorbike and a car had crashed.
NSW Ambulance paramedics rushed to the scene and treated the rider for critical injuries.
The sole patient, a 45-year-old man, suffered head and leg injuries in the collision, a NSW Ambulance spokesperson said.
The man was taken to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle and was reportedly in a critical condition at the time.
A NSW Police spokesperson confirmed the man behind the wheel of the car, aged in his 60, was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Police set up a crime scene and Haussman Drive was closed in both directions as officers worked to piece together how the crash unfolded.
Local diversions for traffic remained in place into the night as the crash site was cleared.
There were no further delays at Thornton as at Thursday morning.
Investigations continue.
