A motorcyclist has been arrested for allegedly riding at extreme speed in Adelaide's north overnight on a bike that had a fake number plate.
It was one of several road incidents in the past 24 hours to attract the attention of SA Police, who were yesterday called to a separate motorbike crash in the CBD and also arrested an alleged drink driver spotted asleep at the wheel at traffic lights.
In the most recent incident, police allegedly spotted a motorbike travelling at 150 kilometres per hour in a 60kph on Main North Road at 12:20am.
The bike continued on the Grove Way and Bridge Road, speeding through suburbs until the rider stopped in Salisbury East, police said.
A police helicopter directed ground patrols to the spot and the rider, a 41-year-old local man, was arrested.
He was charged with driving at extreme speed, breaching bail, using unassigned number plates and driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle.
Hours earlier, police were called to a motorbike crash at the intersection of East Terrace and Grenfell Street in Adelaide's CBD.
The rider, a 40-year-old Modbury man, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and has been reported for driving unlicensed and driving without due care.
Drink driver 'asleep at the wheel'
A 24-year-old Woodcroft man was yesterday arrested after he was allegedly caught sleeping in a car stopped at traffic lights on Port Road.
Police spotted the driver "slumped over the wheel" and submitted him to a breath test, and he allegedly returned a positive result of 0.296, almost six times the legal limit.
He was charged with drink driving and driving disqualified, and has lost his licence for 12 months.
Police yesterday revealed the number of lives lost on the state's roads this year had increased to 10, following the death of a 75-year-old Seaford Meadows woman in hospital.
The woman was one of two pedestrians hit by a car on Ocean Street at Victor Harbor on Sunday afternoon.
Both were taken to the local hospital, along with the 79-year-old driver.
But the 75-year-old woman was later transferred to the Flinders Medical Centre in a critical condition and "sadly … died from her injuries", police said.
