A MOTORCYCLE rider was allegedly trying to evade police when he crashed into two cars and suffered a suspected broken leg.
Newcastle officers were patrolling Station Street at Waratah just before 2pm on Friday when they said they attempted to pull the rider over.
Police allege the man failed to comply and a pursuit was launched in an attempt to stop him.
The motorcycle crashed into two cars at the Turton Street intersection.
The 28-year-old motorbike rider was treated by paramedics at the scene for a suspected broken leg and was rushed to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital.
The drivers of the two cars were not hurt in the crash, police confirmed.
Specialist officers from the NSW Police force's Crash Investigation Unit were tasked to comb the scene for clues about how the crash unfolded.
An investigation remains under way into the circumstances of the crash.

Traffic was affected in both directions at the busy intersection and diversions were in place while first responders and Transport for NSW crews worked at the scene.
The road had reopened to traffic in all directions by Friday night.
