A MOTORBIKE rider has been taken to John Hunter Hospital after a crash with a truck on Darby Street earlier today.
Police were called to Darby Street at Cooks Hill about 11.45am on reports a motorbike and truck had collided near The Delany Hotel.
A NSW Police spokesman said Darby Street was temporarily closed to traffic but has since reopened.
"At the scene, police were told that a motorbike and truck collided," he said.
"The rider of the motorbike, a 35-year-old woman, was assessed at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition."
The Newcastle Herald understands the busy eat street was closed for some time while emergency services responded to the incident and NSW Ambulance paramedics assessed the patient on scene.
It is unclear at this stage what caused the crash.
The road has now been reopened to traffic both ways.
It's the second incident involving a motorcycle in the region in two days, after a rider was left fighting for life in hospital following a serious crash north of Newcastle.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of a car and motorbike crash at Haussman Drive, Thornton, just after 8.30pm on Wednesday.
A 45-year-old man suffered head and leg injuries in the collision and was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition at the time.
